Can You Say, “I Was A Christian For Six Weeks?

In 1947 Hollywood produced a film entitled, “Gentleman's Agreement”. It was a film that exemplified anti-Semitism—or more bluntly put, Jew haters. (Stay with me on this.)

A quick synopsis

The main character, a writer, was assigned to create an angle on anti-Semitism that had never been pursued. The writer, being new in town decided to introduce himself as Jewish—instead of using his real surname, Greene, he used Greenberg; telling almost everyone Greene was his pen name. The title of the article was, I Was Jewish For Six Weeks. He learned the hard way, along with his family, just what it was like to be Jewish—he was shunned socially, even to the point of being asked to retain a Jewish doctor instead of a regular doctor. His son was roughed up and called abusive names. His fiancée, even though she knew he was not Jewish, was greatly embarrassed of what others would think. Bottom line, he discovered there was an unwritten agreement between establishments, where only white Caucasians (assuming to be Christian) were allowed to mingle with proper society.

Unfortunately, many Americans still involve themselves with anti-Semitism, and/or other kinds of racial discrimination. Whether their reasons are good or bad is not the focus of this article. The fact remains, there is still discrimination in America—however, today it is not only racial, but theological in nature. As we swing more toward the end of our church age, the Laodicean church (church of human rights)-ref Rev 3:14-22, we see an uptick regarding the attacks on, not those religions that have aligned themselves with the World Counsel of Churches, not even those religions that were once considered “cults” by main stream religions—no, most attacks are on born-again religions and Jews—but, doesn't the Bible warn of this madness-ref Jn 16:2?

Good verses Evil

In their latest publication, The Legal Alert-January 2026, from the Christian Law Association, there is the usual request for pray regarding issues they have personally counseled, or are in court on behalf of individuals, churches or businesses who are being held back by city governments, schools or businesses for expressing their religious beliefs/rights. This can include a city not allowing a church to put out a manager scene on it's own property, a school student prevented from handing out invitations to other students inviting them to a youth meeting being held at the school, a Christian student group denied access to university meeting rooms, a small town pastor being investigated after holding Bible studies in his own home, a Christian business owner challenged for closing early on Wednesdays for church services—the list goes on and on. The sad thing is, these request are from almost every state in the union. The rise of anti good is on the rise. What is good is said to be evil, what is evil is celebrated as good. And instead of the church standing up to sin—it, in many cases, has become the loudest promoter of wickedness. We as descendants of Adam, (since Eve gave Adam the fruit to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil-ref Gen 2:9; 2:17; 3:6; 3:22), should, indeed, know the difference between good and evil. Perhaps we do. Perhaps that is why there is so much persecution, as Jesus said, “And this is the judgment, that the Light (Jesus, the Word of God) has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the Light; for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light (to Jesus, to the Word of God), so that his deeds will not be exposed. But the one who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds will be revealed as having been performed in God.”-Jn 3:19-22 (NAS).

Final Thought

To bring this full circle, now in America, it is so unpopular to be Christian many youths that were raised in Christian homes are shunning Christianity. Are you the adventurist kind? Could you endure six weeks of claiming you are a Christian? What could happen to you? Would you be able to cope with people avoiding you, whispering things about you, having people blurt out cruel names and blame you for many things that are wrong with the world? Some think it is much easier to read and pray quietly in your own room, but are ashamed to share their faith. They know if they do, they will not get into the best classes, have the best teachers, they will not be able to learn from the world's finest schools, nor would they be chosen to associate with the world's crème de la crème. Think you are going to go to heaven? Think again, Jesus said, “For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”-Mark 8:38. Consider carefully. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My (Jesus) sake will find it. For what good will it do a person if he gains the whole world, but forfeits his soul? Or what will a person give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and will then repay every person according to his deeds-Mat 16:25-27 (NAS).

Is It Easy to Follow Jesus?

If you thought that it was easy to follow Jesus, think again. Throughout the world Christians are being hunted, sought out and persecuted—their only crime being their confession of Jesus Christ—being followers of Him who redeemed them from their sins.
